Jil Teichmann is a Swiss professional tennis player who is adept at both the singles and the doubles formats of the sport having been rated world number 40 in singles in April 2021 and world number 83 in doubles in July 2021, as per the official WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) rankings. At Grand Slam tournaments, in the singles format, she had reached the 2nd round of the 2018 US Open. She had also reached the 2nd round of the 2019 US Open and the 2020 French Open in the doubles format.   1. Born in Barcelona, Spain, to Swiss parents, Jil had lived in that country until the age of 14 when she had returned to Switzerland with her family. Despite living in Spain for 14 years and being born there, she had never held a Spanish passport.
  2. In her developmental years, her parents had urged her to try several sports before she had picked up a tennis racquet on a whim. She had soon decided that she would be pursuing tennis as a professional career.
  3. When she had won her first singles title on the WTA Tour, the Prague Open in May 2019, she had broken into the ‘Top 100’ of the official WTA singles rankings for the first time in her career. She had jumped from world number 146 to world number 87 after the tournament.
  4. After winning her 2nd singles title on the WTA Tour, the Palermo International in July 2019, she had risen to a career-high rank of world number 54. In the final of the tournament, she had upset the then world number 5 Kiki Bertens. This was the first time in her career that she had defeated a player ranked in the ‘Top 10’.
  5. In March 2021, after she had made it to the semifinal of the WTA 1000 Dubai Tennis Championships, she had broken into the ‘Top 50’ of the official WTA singles rankings for the first time in her career.
