- Born in Barcelona, Spain, to Swiss parents, Jil had lived in that country until the age of 14 when she had returned to Switzerland with her family. Despite living in Spain for 14 years and being born there, she had never held a Spanish passport.
- In her developmental years, her parents had urged her to try several sports before she had picked up a tennis racquet on a whim. She had soon decided that she would be pursuing tennis as a professional career.
- When she had won her first singles title on the WTA Tour, the Prague Open in May 2019, she had broken into the ‘Top 100’ of the official WTA singles rankings for the first time in her career. She had jumped from world number 146 to world number 87 after the tournament.
